Weekend Getaways: Pozar Hot Springs

Need a beautiful and amazing place to relax while visiting Thessaloniki? Just visit the Pozar Hot Springs!  Gorgeous landscapes with a natural hot turquoise pool fueled by a waterfall from the Ayios Nikólaos, otherwise known as Thermopótamos, which means “hot river”.

Located only a few feet from another waterfall and the rest of the stream that is quite cold.  It is recommended that you stay on the warm side of this river.  Relaxing in this naturally heated pool takes the strain off of your body, allowing you to fully relax and enjoy the alluring scenery around you.

There is also another pool that you can go relax; even though it is not naturally heated, it still has a warm temperature and is just as relaxing.  It is a bit bigger, giving you more room to swim around and hang out with friends.  If you are looking for a more private setting, there are hammams, which are traditional Turkish style baths with natural hot springs.

Not in the mood to relax just yet? Well, you are in luck. There are also trails that you can hike up the mountain along side of the river.  The hike itself is one of immense beauty and wonder.  You can stop anywhere along these trails for a quick snack and break or to take in the beauty that surrounds you.

When asking a local, Chrisovalantis Gogos, about the springs, this is what he had to say; “I’ve been twice before and I love it.  It’s nice and relaxing in the waterfall pool.  The warm water falling and hitting your back is like getting a massage.  It makes you think about how awesome Mother Nature is.  The area is also very beautiful.  I really enjoy going and I will definitely go back again.”
