Editors @ Principal Club Theater | 05.12.15

Editors are an English rock band, formed in 2002 in Stafford. Previously known as Pilot, The Pride and Snowfield, the band currently consists of Tom Smith (lead vocals, guitar, piano), Russell Leetch (bass guitar, synthesizer, backing vocals), Ed Lay (drums, percussion, backing vocals), Justin Lockey (Lead guitar), and Elliott Williams (Keys, synthesizers, guitars, and backing vocals) .

Editors have so far released two platinum studio albums, and four in total, with several million combined sales. Their debut album The Back Room was released in 2005. It contained the hits “Munich” and “Blood” and the following year received a Mercury Prize nomination.

Their follow-up album An End Has a Start went to number 1 in the UK Album Chart in June 2007 and earned the band a Brit Awards nomination for best British Band. It also spawned another Top 10 hit single, “Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors”. The band’s third album, In This Light and on This Evening, was released in October 2009 and went straight to number 1 in the UK Album Chart. The band released their fourth studio album, The Weight of Your Love, in July 2013.

Alongside their critical acclaim and strong success in the charts, Editors have consistently enjoyed sold out tours and numerous headlining festival slots. Their brand of dark indie rock is commonly compared to the sound of bands such as Echo & the Bunnymen, Joy Division, Interpol, The Chameleons and U2.

X-Change It @ American College of Thessaloniki | 14.05.15

Have any old clothes, books, toys, CDs, decorations or any other items that you would wish to donate for a good cause? Then, join our social exchange charity event at ACT campus on May 14, from 13.00 to 17.00. By donating one or more items (as many as you wish), you will immediately become a participant in our social exchange research. The aim of this event is to bring students of different nationalities together and celebrate cultural differences while informing them about EnjoyThessaloniki.com

Some of us can afford to buy new commodities every year and replace them by shoving our old clothes or any other commodities somewhere on the basement. Not all of us are as fortunate though; there are people living in Greece who lack some of the main basic commodities. Our aim is to help them by donating our used items to ARSIS (a NGO helping young minorities who lack basic needs and are marginalized). So, let’s find some time to go through our boxes of unused goods and think again if somebody out there will need it.

Another perspective of our event is cultural exchange; sharing our commodities and our compassion with the community we belong to. We are going to do this through engaging you to bring at least ONE item and take ONE item from the our “charity rack” that will be placed outside cafeteria on the day of the event. Through this “exchange of goods” we will ask you to fill our questionnaires while raising awareness for the existence of our NGO (Enjoy Thessaloniki). ACT is a multi-cultural community with young people from all over the world struggling to adapt and understand Greek life and culture. EnjoyThessaloniki.com is the website they need to click for any information they have about the city. We want to inform them what the website is about and encourage them to engage in it.

We hope that this event will be a start of many more cultural exchange events around the city in the future. We are starting with the community of the university we belong to and this way we aim to inspire other people who are passionate about diversity and charity to do something similar in their communities. If we all gave a little of what we have in order to help those in need, the world would be a much better place. So, come meet us on May 14th and check out our charity rack. Don’t forget to bring at least ONE item so you can get ONE other item in return. Let’s make this happen!!!

Fortuna Records Showcase @ Bord de l’eau | 17.04.15

After their first appearance in the 2014 Reworks International Music Festival held in Thessaloniki, Fortuna Records is back for one more showcase.

Based in Tel Aviv, Fortuna Records specializes in the forgotten psychedelic sounds of Israel, the Middle east and much more. After years of digging, djing and partying, the three people behind this exceptional label, Maor Anava, Zack Bar and Ariel Tager, realized they shared a common fascination and affection for the same eccentric and original sounds. They are responsible for the emergence and diffusion of the Jaffa sound, which originated in the city of Jaffa and is characterized as a mixture of traditional Mediterranean music infused with plush guitars, heavy drums and synthesizers.

The songs reflect the different backgrounds of the participating artists and feature Greek, Turkish, Moroccan, Arabian and Jewish elements. With two appearances in the Boiler Room already under their belt and the support of Gilles Peterson and the BBC, they are responsible for the creation of the global phenomenon “Jaffa buzz”.

Art Thessaloniki @ HELEXPO – International Exhibition Centre | 29.10-01.11.15

The inaugural ART THESSALONIKI INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY ART FAIR is organised by the National Agency for The Organisation of Exhibitions, Congresses and Cultural Events (HELEXPO S.A.) together with Pantelis Tsatsis, Artistic Director, who is the driving force behind this initiative.

The team of collaborators that has been selected, shares the vision of a new International Contemporary Art Fair in Greece which will give a fresh commercial, cultural and educational impetus to the arts: art and culture after all are the basic vehicles for spreading knowledge, economic development as well as ‘the message’ in general.

Therefore, this Fair becomes an annual event and plays a crucial and multidimensional role in showcasing dialogue, artistic activity, innovation as well as establishing common ground for artistic exchanges, particularly the appreciation of differentness between civilizations.

Thessaloniki, the emblematic city, multi-cultural cross-roads of civilizations, has a history going back 2,300 years from the Macedonian Empire of the Alexander the Great, thus, a cosmopolitan spirit nurtures a vibrant arena where artists can exchange ideas, record opinions and information and thereby establish a permanent communication network, primarily with the countries of the South-East and the rest of Europe, the Balkans, the Mediterranean, Russia, Turkey and Israel.

The International Contemporary Art Fair is organised in a city open to fresh ideas, rejuvenated, hospitable and safe, offering up multicultural journeys, unique elements of localisation and enjoyable gastronomic taste.
