Warlord

Written by Admin on . Posted in

One of the greatest concert frustrations of the Hellenic Heavy Metal Community is about to be resolved this coming April, as the Legendary Warlord will finally arrive in Greece for TWO concert events that noone should miss!!

The Californian Lyric Heavy Metal band was formed in the early 80s by Greek-American composer and guitarist Bill Tsamis and drummer Mark Zonder. Few bands with such a limited discography were so influential as Warlord has been as with one EP (1983’s “Deliver Us”) one Single (“Aliens/Lost And Lonely Days”) and one full length album (1984’s “And The Cannons Of Destruction have begun”) were enough to fuel and maintain their legend alive for 18 years until their 2002 limited-time reunion that gave us (“Rising Out Of The Ashes” – featuring Hammerfall’s Joacim Cans on vocals).

The persistent rumors for the re-activation of the band were confirmed few months ago, but no-one, not even in his or her wildest dreams, could imagine that the band that has only appeared twice live in its history (Both within the 2002 Wacken festival) will perform TWICE in Greece!!!

In guitarist Bill Tsamis’ own words:
“Mark Zonder and I have worked very hard to bring Warlord to Greece in April 2013. In the wake of a new album we are prepared to unleash the full power and fury of Warlord to the die hard fans in Greece, as well as to any others who would like to witness this thunderstorm in Thessaloniki and Athens. From the stagecraft, to the prdocution and presentaion, as well as the music of Warlord from all eras, Mark and I have put together a group that will astonish you — yes, “astonish” you. If you think you know what to expect, forget about it . . . because what we are bringing is beyond your wildest dreams. We want to thank the fans for their undying support over all these years. It is “you” who have kept the flame burning all these years and we are coming to fan those flames before your very eyes into a massive firestorm. You have set high standards because you are Warlord fans – and Warlord fans are some of the most discerning fans in metal. Well, we will not only meet your expectations but we will transcend them and give you a production of Warlord that you will never forget. We are on fire about coming to Greece . . . we hope you are as excited and energized as we are for the coming conflagration. Mark and I are aware that we owe you all a huge debt . . . thus, we are coming to pay you. Be there !!!”

Bill Tsamis, Mark Zonder and co. will be found in Thessaloniki (Wednesday, April 24th, 2013 at Mylos Club) and Athens (Saturday, April 27th, 2013 at Gagarin 205) for TWO shows that will make history!

Sivert Høyem

Written by Admin on . Posted in

It’s not more than a year since last time he was here. In December the Norwegian rock star Sivert Høyem will be back in Greece – a country he loves to play in. It was December again last year, that Sivert Høyem gave three magical and memorable concerts in Greece.

“I have some of my best and loyal fans in Greece, so I am really looking forward to play here again. I hope there’s going to be a lot of people attending my concerts. There is always a lot of energy on my concerts here, and my Greek fans are very emotionally engaged in the concerts. Also their knowledge of music is very good, and that makes it really fun to play here.”, states Sivert Høyem, that first gained popularity in Greece with his former Norwegian rock group Madrugada.

As a solo artist Sivert Høyem has released three albums: Ladies and Gentlemen of the Opposition (2004), Moon Landing (2009) and Long Slow Distance (2011) as the most recent.

Calexico

Calexico is a band from Tucson, Arizona that shares a sun-bleached border with many performers and musical styles. Comprised of two core members, Joey Burns and John Convertino, Calexico became its own entity in 1996 with the release of the Spoke LP.

This particularly favourite band to the Greek public, will make two stops in our country during their tour on the occasion of their new album. John Convertino and Joey Burns together with their band will present “Algiers”, their ninth album, through the usual combination of country guitars and mariachi wind instruments.

With the special touch of the so-called sound of the desert following them on their way to the top, it is more than certain that Calexico will offer one more exotic sound trip and by no means should you miss the departure.

ORQUESTA BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB featuring OMARA PORTUONDO!

The Buena Vista Social Club was one of the most famous member clubs of Havana during the 40’s and a meeting place for some of the most influential musicians of the era. When after 50 years in the mid-90’s, the club finally closed the famous American guitarist Ry Cooder and Cuban musician Juan de Marcos Gonzales inspired the Buena Vista Social Club, a band of traditional Cuban musicians, some of whom were leaders in the legendary club scene when it was at the peak of his success.

The success of Buena Vista Social Club came to prominence in the mid-90s, after the successful film with the same name from Wim Venders, while the international press spoke about the “phenomenon” of Cuban music, which promoted the country’s musicians and rich cultural heritage.

The Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club, the “phenomenon” of Cuban music, returns to Greece for two big concerts on Friday 30/11 in Thessaloniki (Ivanofeio) and Saturday 1/12 in Athens. Τhis time, with the addition of the great Omara Portuondo on vocals, and the original members Jesus “Aguaje” Ramos, Barbarito Torreskai and Guajiro Mirabal to be accompanied by the “elite” of young Cuban musicians: Pedro Pablo, Rolando Luna, Papi Oviedo, Idania Valdés , Carlos Calunga, Filiberto Sanchez, La Noche, Angel Terry, Luis Alemanya and Guajirito Mirabal, the Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club promises an unforgettable night to all of those who will attend the event, full of fun, great melodies and dance!

The Great Park

Written by Admin on . Posted in

Stephen Burch is an English songwriter currently based in Germany. He began making music whilst living on a remote farm in rural Ireland – using acoustic guitars, the family’s piano, brooms and chains. His lyrical, narrative songs bear the influence of the fields of County Cork and the old streets of Berlin. Images of persecution abound, songs of urgent travel and a search for home – the unifying theme is that of grave drama within ‘The Great Park’.

Stephen has played over 150 concerts each year for the past several years – touring Germany, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Denmark and the UK. He has released over 12 albums on the DIY label Woodland Recordings, a compilation through the German label Timezone, has provided music for several films and his songs have been covered on releases by Liz Green, The Sons of Noel And Adrian, Thirty Pounds of Bone and others.
