Works perfomed from the group of composers who shaped 20th century America music, and particularly distinguished names of George Gershwin, Duke Ellington and Cole Porter. Their work covers all musical forms (songs, orchestrations, musicals, symphonic poems, operas) and it well-deserves the title of “classic”.
Projects such as Porgy and Bess, An American in Paris and Rhapsody in Blue of Gershwin, Orchestral Suites and Sacred Concerts of Ellington, Kiss me, Kate and Around the World in 80 Days of Porter is an important stone for the art of music in the 20th century and beyond. The compositions listed in this tribute is a small sample of the enormous work of these three musical giants.

In 2000, The Herbaliser, the pioneering hip-hop collective band from West London, released their first vinyl titled Session 1. This album, with extensive orchestral pieces marked the evolution of the group in a band of high standards. The Guardian called the album “an excellent proof that this kind of music sounds best when played by musicians than by a sampler”.
Over a decade later, The Herbaliser, are in the middle of a new music revolution. In the album “Same As It Never Was”, released in 2008, the founder of the group, Jake Wherry and Ollie Teeba focused more than ever on classic soul-pop songwriting. Greater also was the artistic contribution of the trumpet players Ralph Lamb and Andy Ross, with vocals added by Jessica Darling. Product of these new partnerships was the creation of Session 2, which runs a live favorite decade of underground beats and breaks from the album “Blow Your Headphones” (1997), to the more polished, sentient grooves of “Same As It Never Was”. Session 2 is the sound of a constantly evolving band which is now at the peak of its potential.
NNEKA, the new superstar of reggae, soul, ethnic music for the first time in Greece!
+ Opening acts: EXPE, ANIMA NATION
+ After party: TWO HANDS WAS NEVER ENOUGH
+ More tba
The award winning songwriter, singer and activist Nneka Egbuna is visiting our country for the first time just months after the release of her new album ‘Soul Is Heavy’ for only two appearances in Thessaloniki (Friday, October 5) and Athens(Saturday, October 6).
Nneka’s music is a mix of hip-hop, reggae, soul and African rhythms, having herself mentioned artists like Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, Mos Def, Talib Kweli and Lauryn Hill as major musical influences. It is one of the few artists whose music has no distinct boundaries and passes successfully from very different musical genres, such as the aforementioned hip-hop, reggae, soul till dubstep or house, through collaborations with the biggest names in electronic music producing (Chase & Status, Joe Goddard, Coki).
The lyrics reflect her personal path in life in her country Nigeria, where she grew up, but also the experiences of the western way of life in Europe, where it was found, almost teenage, as an immigrant struggling to survive alone. Her songs speak of human emotions, capitalism, poverty, war, hypocrisy and corrupted politics in African countries and in the global arena.
He has already released three very successful albums, ‘Victim of Truth’, ‘No Longer at Ease’ and ‘Soul is Heavy ‘, of which stood out tracks like ‘The Uncomfortable Truth’, ‘Africans’, ‘Heartbeat’, ‘Kangpe’ , ‘Shining Star’, ‘Soul Is Heavy’, ‘God Knows Why’, ‘My home’ and many many more. Her work has received very impressive reviews and is often characterized as a continuation of Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu with many African elements and as the new big star of black music, but Nneka is more than just a talented artist. From the first album it was obvious that Africa has acquired a new powerful voice on her face. In 2011 Nneka founded the NGO ROPE, which deals with youth in different parts of the African continent with a strong presence in her home the Niger Delta, one of the most degraded parts of the globe.
The Boys Are Back In Town! The legendary Thin Lizzy return to Greece for two performances, Friday, 9 November at Gagarin in Athens and Saturday, November 10 in Thessaloniki in Principal.
26 years after the untimely death of Phil Lynott, the legend of one of the most talented creators of rock music continues to grow. Thin Lizzy’s name became synonymous with the golden age of classical and hard rock music, and songs like “The Boys Are Back In Town”, “Whiskey In The Jar”, “Jailbreak”, “Looking For An Alibi” are among the biggest hits of all time.
The songs of Thin Lizzy remain famous today as ever. Proof is the constant presence in the playlist any radio station, and the continuity of successful tours of the band.
The current line-up of Thin Lizzy consists of three original members of the band that played with Lynott: Scott Gorham (guitar), Brian Downey (drums) and Darren Wharton (keyboards). Together, they have top musicians with important past: Marco Mendoza (Whitesnake, Ted Nugent) on bass, Ricky Warwick (The Allmighty) on vocals and Damon Johnson (Alice Cooper) on guitar.
The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble (TKDE) were formed in 2000 as a shape that would write original music for existing silent film like Nosferatu of F.W. Murnau and Metropolis of Fritz Lang. Co-founders of TKDE, Justin Köhnen (commonly known as Bong-Ra) and Gideon Kiers, combined their audiovisual knowledge to create a highly cinematic noir atmosphere both in recordings and in their live performances which very aptly gave the definition darkjazz.
However the term darkjazz is unable to fully describe the entire musical spectrum covered by the compositions of the TKDE and includes in equal installments the orchestral genius of Henryk Gorecki and Cinematic Orchestra, the lyricism of Portishead, the atmosphere of Ulver and the power of orchestration of Godspeed You Black Emperor. On stage, all of the above, accompanied by the claustrophobic visual creations are combined with harmony with the “fantastic” movie soundtracks of TKDE.
