Locomondo live @ Block 33 | 26 & 27.04.13

More info to be announced soon…

Locomondo is a 7 member band based in Athens, Greece. It is the first band which fused the Caribbean sound together with Greek musical elements and Greek lyrics, producing a fresh sound and a new approach to the already known forms of the Caribbean as well as the Greek music.

Since 2004, they have released 6 albums and have toured extensively in Greece, Germany and the Netherlands with great success. During the course of these years, they have shared the stage with bands such as Manu Chao, the Skatalites, Chumbawamba, Alpha Blondie, Ojos de Brujo, the Wailers, Aswad and Ska Cubano among others. They have collaborated with Amparo Sanchez from Amparanoia and Natty Bo from Ska Cubano on their third record “Me Wanna Dance” and have participated on the single of the German group Beat n’ Blow “Hey Girl (Greek version)” which received ample airplay on Funkhaus Europa and Radio Multiculti. Vin Gordon, the veteran trombonist of Studio One, the world famous Jamaican studio, has participated in their second album, which was recorded in Jamaica in 2005.

Locomondo have entered the charts of Radio France Internationale with one of the songs of their first album “stin Athina”, been included in the cd of the German reggae magazine “Riddim” in the issue of August 2008, and have been part of the “Radio Chango” family since 2007. In their live shows, Locomondo try to capture the energy and the feel of a party, where the crowd and the band share the common experience of a great “fiesta”. Many of their songs have been big hits in Greece.

In 2008 they have written the soundtrack for the film “To gamilio party (The wedding party)”, which was directed by Christine Crokos, an upcoming Greek-American director. In the summer of 2009 they played a series of German festivals, such as Stemweder open air, Fusion festival and Chiemsee reggae festival.

In November 2009 Locomondo released a double live cd. “Locomondo Live!”, was recorded during their summer 2009 tour in various shows in Greece. They also had the honour of having their cover of the traditional song “Frangosyriani” being included in Fatih Akin’s latest movie, “Soul Kitchen”. The film won the Special Jury Prize award in Venice film festival in 2009, where the song was played during the red carpet walk for the premiere of the film.

In December 2009 Locomondo traveled to Istanbul for the Turkish premiere of the film “Soul Kitchen” and played a live show in Babylon club. In May 2010 the band released the song “Goal!” as a download single. The song is inspired by the beauty of the football game. Later in June the same song is also released with German lyrics as “Tor!”.

In April 2011 Locomondo release their first record outside of Greece. This compilation album called “Best of” consists of a selection of songs from their previous discography, plus a “Locomondo” version of Griechischer Wein, an Udo Juergens classic speaking about the life of the Greek immigrants in Germany in the 60’s.

Santé

CHICness & Piccadilly (-) MINUS present Santé on Saturday February 16!

À votre santé!“ – that’s how french people and, occasionally, some extra-sophisticated middle-class-intellectuals everywhere are drinking to the health and well being of each other. So it’s pretty obvious, how the label-moniker Avotre came about. On the one hand, it draws a line to its initiator Santé – busy, renowned, Berlin-residing producer, DJ and soundwizard. On the other hand, it already hints towards the agenda of this enterprise. Around all those labels popping up all the time, mostly being just virtual phenomenons, the Avotre-cosmos aspires to grow into a distinctly recognizable and even sensible matter of heart. To put it straight: Avotre is concerned about its scene’s well being.

That said, Avotre is not like the common, genre-specific label as we know it all too well, not another Techhouse-imprint that’s dropping hardly distinguishable productions every week. The basic principle coming to effect in this venture would be called ‘laissez-faire’ in its mother tongue. It’s not just Housemusic about to happen here, there are rather all sorts of things about to happen. Be it R’n’B, be it Downbeat, Disco and whatnot. Stylewise, Avotre offers a home for everything that represents the different tempers of the contributing producers. Belonging to this crew are, next to Santé himself: the already capturing, on Gigolo and Souvenir releasing Re.You, Munich resident Sascha Sible, who already came into picture with releases on Be Chosen and Souvenir and Ahmad Laren from New York, who just recently moved to Berlin and Hamburgs very own New Comer Sidney Charles wo had his debut at Kling Klong.

After all: who says, an Avotre-release necessarily needs to be a vinyl or an MP3? There are a lot of other things in the making, all of which have one thing in common. The knowledge, that music always encloses a sense of life.

Firewater @ Principal Club Theater | 16.03.13

Firewater is an international band which draws musical and lyrical inspiration from around the globe. The group was formed in 1997 in Brooklyn, USA, by writer, ringleader, and mouthpiece Tod A. Now they call everywhere home. They have never looked back.

Firewater believes that music can be more than wallpaper, that lyrics can express more than hot air, and that emotions honestly conveyed can overcome the superficial differences between people often imposed by borders, politics and language. Firewater believes in the undying energy of punk rock – wherever it may be found.

Firewater are optimists in a pessimistic world. They celebrate weddings, and births, and funerals. They fight for the freedom to travel, to create, and to breathe. They want to live until they die. They hope you like their music and their message. Feel free to dance.

Claptone @ Shark | 10.03.13

Claptone | exploitedghetto.de/artists/claptone

In a now long forgotten world, many generations ago, a bird like shape emerged from wooded dark- ness, floating and fluttering, drifting and dreaming. Backlit by a bright glow of iridescent light, the undecipherable form wore a dazzling golden mask. Its long beak swooped down like an inverted horn and since then, people have referred to the mythical being simply as Claptone.

Years spending wandering medieval landscapes have informed Claptone’s view of the world, experi- encing both magical mystery and muted melancholy he enchanted onlookers with occult instruments and beguiling sounds. Forever surrounded by a sense of intrigue, the world soon cottoned on to the elusive yet enchanting musical powers of this otherworldly beast. The results are that today his sha- manistic sonic powers take him all around the world.

Whilst Claptone has continued to roam in his own circles, 2012 AD proved to be a year dominatedby his infectious ‘Cream’ track. It became an immediate hit, topping new world charts at Beatport and RA, whilst the sonic conjuring of the ‘Night On Fire’ EP also lured all those who heard it, with the result another Top 20 hit. But that’s not all, for the creativity flows freely in our hero, and his ‘Another Night’ also proved to be just as successful on the dancefloor. Deep and woozy, the Claptone sound pairs theatre with tragedy, feel good vibes with acute melancholia and imbues each groove with a Rhodes laced funk, an organic string hook and myriad earthy elements.

Up to the present day, Claptone releases have been birthed on Germany’s influential Exploited label, picking up props from the likes of Pete Tong, DJ Sneak, Soul Clap, DJ Hell, Jesse Rose, A-Trak along the way. Who or whatever Claptone is, it is alive, with a life of its own, evolving and revolving in equal measure, exploring new sounds naturally and forever taking inspiration from long gone and occult worlds.

So far, esteemed and influential dancefloors at clubs in Berlin, London, Paris, Melbourne, Shanghai, New York and many others around the world have fallen under the sonic spell of this secretive alche- mist. The future is unpredictable for Claptone, but a new release ‘Wrong’ including the track ‘No Eyes’ with the inimitable JAW from French funsters dOP is on the horizon. Beyond that, your guess is as good as ours…
