Cayetano Live Band

Cayetano Live Band @ Gaia Live

In 1996, 19 year old George Bratanis released his 1st album with his group Stroggilo Kitrino (The Round Yellow) to much praise, especially for a very characteristic use of the Hammond sound and his own dynamic on-stage appearances.

After Stroggilo Kitrino found success playing venues in Greece and Italy, Bratanis left his group and in 1999, he moved to Spain, where he composed music for theatrical plays and films. While touring Spain, Bratanis played as a session musician for respectable Spanish bands, and though this gave him a good deal of respect, he nevertheless left Spain in 2004 so he may explore his ambitious dreams of becoming a successful solo artist under the helm of Cayetano.

Cayetano made his first releases while still living in Barcelona, the vinyl EPs “Mr. White” and the eponymous “Cayetano”, on the German label “Kinky Lounge”. His international recognition came in 2006 when he released the album “Focused”, which managed to get extensive airplay on many radio stations and received near universal praise from critics. His following collaboration with Loopa Scava resulted in his sophomore album “Up & Down”, released by Etage Noir Records.

Cayetano has since recieved a nomination for the French Annually Prizes “Prix Radiophonie”, the 1st Award for film scoring for the Swedish film “Herr Holger” , the honor of having Berlin’s Mathematical Expo choose his song “Mathematical Sorrow” as their official theme, numerous remixes from the likes of Parov Stelar, Wax Tailor, and Mod X, as well as licensing his music to a diverse selection of media and not to mention his live appearances were lauded by the likes of WIRE magazine.

His third album, titled “The Big Fall”, was released by Etage Noir Records to recognition on international iTunes and SoulSeduction.com charts. “The Big Fall” was Cayetano’s step into a darker, more mature territory, one which Cayetano proudly feels is his most authentic approach to playing his music.

In October 2010, Cayetano signed with Klik Records and subsequently released the album “Back Home” two months later. Four months after the successful release of “Back Home”, he formed the CAYETANO LIVE BAND, a collective of exceptionally talented musicians, whose concerts are more than often sold out.

On September 17th 2012, Cayetano returns with his crowning achievement, the album he is proudest of, ‘’Once Sometime”, on Klik Records’ new sub-label Pale Sound Records.

As James Andrew said:
“Cayetano seems to walk in a road made for him, by him. A unique, colorful road. And he walks really nice”.

Cayetano Live Band

Beyond History: Thessaloniki through photography

Beyond History: Thessaloniki through photography / Part A’ – From Liberation to the Interwar period

The current exhibition (Part A) covers the period from Liberation to the Interwar period  while Part B from the Second World War to the Political Changeover (March-April 2013) and Part C, from the Political Changeover till today follow (May-June 2013). All three exhibitions are part of the Museum Series “Glances at the city”, they belong to the Parallel Program of the PhotoBiennale and are the Museum’s contribution to the city’s celebrations of its 100th anniversary since its liberation.

The images of this exhibition attempt to create the atmosphere of an époque as that was experienced by its photographers and to bring on to the surface the sounds which had faded with the passage of time. In the introductory section there are indicative photographs of the Ottoman Thessaloniki, before the liberation, where an “unintentional multiculturalism” dominates. The White Tower surrounded by its walls, portraits of different ethnicities, children’s faces from the last century.

The first section The Tumult of War presents a city which is in constant turmoil, a step before a conflict or on the verge of another. The images here describe this “swinging” between those events, while the main importance is shifted to the simple everyday life of the soldiers.

The second section The Roar of Fire, refers to the big fire of 1917 which changed completely the appearance of the city, leaving a great part of its architectural heritage to the silence of the ashes.

The third section which is the main part of the exhibition is The City Buzz. Families, images from photographers’ studios, landmarks and  neighbourhoods, middle class people, uprooted refugees, wedding and funeral scenes, school excursions, strolls –a city alive.

In the back of the exhibition the sound of the city becomes more intense, as there are selected documentaries of Thessaloniki and relevant bibliography, which enable the viewer to use also historical tools in order to reach beyond history.

Music Is Love with Nhan Solo at Piccadilly Minus

Nhan Solo is a DJ, producer, labelowner, an intellectual slacker and in confusing times like these, where my-house-is-your-house-and-what-the-fuck-is-house-anyway, an up-and-coming talent from the lands of the rising sun, driven by passion for deepness and purity of the groove is roaming the cosmos. To gather the true believers on his quest for the lost arch that jack built.

From the Bavarian lowlands he found his way to Berlin, where he set up his own imprint Mother Recordings in 2012, providing a haven for like-minded musicians. It´s a healthy bunch of friends, artists and creative heads. Their individual life stories and experiences help to shape a very personal vision of contemporary House music, that received instant positive feedback from the first release on. The list of releasing artists and remixers on the freshly founded label contains well-known names such as Daniel Dexter, The Revenge, Audiojack, El_Txef_A, NTFO, Walker & Royce, Andre Crom, and many more.

Nhan Solo Thessaloniki

Coming from a skateboarding and Hip Hop background he first fell in love with House music in the early 2000s. For Nhan Solo, House is an organic progression of Hip Hop pitched to 100+ BPM with Funk and Soul samples twitched into loops. Being inspired by the music of Africa Bambaataa, George Clinton, Parliament and Funkadelic – his own rump shaking, body popping productions are heavily based on their synths and drumbeat sounds.

Nhan Solo´s personal continuous musical output can or will be found on labels such as OFF Recordings, Stranjjur, 2DIY4, Dikso, Nurvous Records and of course Mother Recordings. His tracks have been remixed by respectable members of the scene like Ian Pooley, Spencer Parker, Oliver $, Martin Dawson, Kiki, Fritz Zander, Adriatique – just to name a few.

So far, 2012 has been the most successful year for Nhan Solo´s still young career as a DJ. With gigs all over Europe (Istanbul, Amsterdam, Zurich, Oslo, Copenhagen, Lyon, Berlin etc.) and 2 personal Beatport Top 10 hits (“Easy” & “Friends”) which received massive support by Solomun, Soul Clap, Jozif, Dyed Soundorom, Adana Twins, DJ T…

Paul Roland

Paul Roland + Opening Act by Mani Deum

The father of steampunk, the “Edgar Allen Poe of psych pop”, the great musician and writer Paul Roland returns to Greece for two live concerts!

PAUL ROLAND is a prolific recording artist and author widely acknowledged as being the Godfather of Steampunk. His arrival into the world on September 6, 1959 in Kent, England, was anything but ordinary, when his mother gave birth to him backstage during a production of Hamlet. She was playing Ophelia at the time. Born to an actress mother and a writer father, Paul’s love of the arts blossomed early and set the scene for an extraordinary musical career which has seen him connect with some of the music industry’s most influential figures.

Since the release of his first album “The Werewolf of London” in 1980, Paul has written and recorded 15 albums which he is now in the process of ‘retouching’ ready for re-release to a loyal cult following in the UK, Europe and the US. Formerly managed by June Bolan, the widow of T. Rex frontman, Marc Bolan, Paul has spent his musical career spinning tales against a backdrop of gothic rock, psych-pop, folk, and occasionally, baroque strings earning him the sobriquet, ‘The Edgar Allen Poe’ of psychpop.

His varied music creations include 19th Century murderers, a retired executioner, a Regency magistrate, an opium addict and an entire court of medieval grotesques, to name but a few. An only child, Paul’s childhood was filled with adventure and rebellion. A self-confessed ‘non academic’, he loved to stage melodramatic plays based on old horror movies where his friends were cast as the hapless victims and he as the mad doctor/monster.

Early musical influences were Marc Bolan, King Crimson and The Velvet Underground but when Paul bought his first guitar aged 14 and learned his first three chords, he developed his own style and started writing his uniquely narrative songs, many set in Edwardian and Victorian England. At 19 he recorded his first single and just a few months later his very first album, The Werewolf of London (1980) which was picked up by Armageddon Records in the UK and is now a highly collectible item.

Album success led to Paul’s first European tours and label deals in France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the USA and Japan. He also received offers to work with film composer Michael Nyman and members of the Velvet Underground. In 1997 the musician took a seven year break from music to raise his two young sons and write a series of books on mysticism and true crime. He now has more than 30 titles to his credit which have been translated into more than 15 languages.

In 2002 Paul returned to the music scene with an appearance at a Berlin Goth festival. Then, after a series of re-issues on a small German label, he released his first new album (‘Pavane’) on his own Gaslight label and recorded a second (‘Re-animator’), featuring several songs based on stories by H.P Lovecraft, with members of Caravan. In 2006 Paul left England to live in Germany where he carved out a successful career, writing and performing.

Referred to in many German circles as “the Godfather of Neo Folk”, 2011 sees the release of Paul’s new album, Grimm, inspired by Grimm’s Fairytales. He’s also working on yet another album which will be more 60s influenced pysch pop (featuring songs written for an aborted project with the surviving members of the Velvet Underground and 60s psych pop group John’s Children) and with the usual dash of macabre humour which has become one of his many trademarks over the years.

Are You Experienced?

Written by Admin on . Posted in

“Are You Experienced?” were formed over fourteen years ago and in that time they have become widely regarded as just about the best JIMI HENDRIX tribute show you will see.

Guitarist John Campbell bears more than just a passing resemblance and has drawn on his many years of playing in different bands and various styles to perfect his “Hendrix” persona. When he plays his strat behind his head and with his teeth, it brings a smile to the face of even the most finicky Hendrix fan. With his unique visual playing style, bass guitarist Mark Arnold has also played in various bands over the years and provides a solid foundation as one half of the rhythm section.

Drummer and backing vocalist Kevin O’Grady, completes the line up. Anyone who has caught the act will surely agree that Kevin puts nothing less than 100% into his powerhouse drumming style. The band are proud to be playing the timeless music of JIMI HENDRIX, providing some nostalgic moments for those lucky people who actually witnessed Jimi in the flesh and recreating some of the magic for a new and eager audience.

Catch “Are You Experienced?” when they come in Thessaloniki and relive the excitement and explosive stage show of the JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE. Let the band take you through all the favourites like “Hey Joe”,”Voodoo Chile”, “All Along The Watchtower”, “Foxy Lady” and “Little Wing”, culminating in the guitar-burning finale of Wild Thing.
